Esbayeni is a record book for cattle farmers. This page says what it keeps, where, who sees it, and how to delete it, as the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) asks.

On your phone

Your herd, camps, medicines, jobs, notes and photos are kept in the browser on your phone. They stay there unless you create an account and put the farm online.

Online, only if you create an account

Your name, your email, your password in scrambled form (we cannot read it), a scrambled recovery code, and the records and photos of farms you put online or join. Everyone on a farm sees that farm's records and the names and emails of the people on it.

Counts and error reports

To improve Esbayeni, each phone sends a daily count: how many animals, records and camps, whether a farm is set up or shared, the app language, the browser and the country. If the app breaks, it sends the error message and the screen it happened on. Neither has names, ear tags, farm names or records. Pages of this site are counted too: which page, the day, and the site you came from, with no id and no cookie. Suggestions you send are kept with the contact details you choose to give.

When you contact us

The contact form sends your name, phone number, and if you give them your email, province, herd size and message. We use them only to reply to you, and delete them when you ask. Until it reaches us, the message waits on your phone.

Melusi AI, only if you turn it on

Melusi AI, the farm manager in Esbayeni, is off until you agree to it. When you ask a question, your question and the records of that farm (animals, treatments, camps, medicines, jobs and tasks) go to Anthropic, the company that makes the AI, to work out the answer. If you talk to it on a live call, your voice and its answers go through ElevenLabs, and we delete ElevenLabs' copy of the call when you hang up. Both companies may process this outside South Africa, under their own terms. We do not store your conversations or recordings; we keep only how many questions each farm asked each day, and when you agreed. To turn it off, or to remove all of it, delete your account or tell us.

If you ask about the weather, the town you name goes to Open-Meteo, which supplies the forecast (CC BY 4.0). Your records do not go to them. Some pest and soil advice draws on the Farmers' Resource Guide by the Route to Food Initiative (CC BY 4.0).

Where it is kept

On Cloudflare's servers, which may be outside South Africa. We do not sell your information. We share it only as the Melusi AI section below says, and we use it only to run and improve Esbayeni and to answer you.

Your choices

See and keep a copy: Farm setup, Download backup. Correct: edit any record. Delete: Farm setup, Share and sync, Delete my account. Farms you own pass to the next person on them; a farm with nobody else is deleted from our servers. The records on your phone stay until you erase the farm.

Use the contact form, or tap Help in the app and choose Report a problem; we read every message. You may also complain to the Information Regulator.

Uma uhlelo luphuka, luthumela umlayezo wephutha nesikrini okwenzeke kuso. Akukho kokubili okunamagama, amathegi, amagama amapulazi noma amarekhodi. Amakhasi alesi siza nawo ayabalwa: ikhasi, usuku, nesiza ovela kuso, ngaphandle kwenombolo yakho noma ikhukhi. Iziphakamiso ozithumelayo zigcinwa nemininingwane yokuxhumana okhetha ukuyinikeza.

Uma uxhumana nathi

Ifomu lokuxhumana lithumela igama lakho, inombolo yefoni, futhi uma uyinikeza, i-imeyili, isifundazwe, ubungako bomhlambi nomlayezo. Sikusebenzisela ukukuphendula kuphela, futhi siyakususa uma ucela. Uze ufike kithi, umlayezo ulinda efonini yakho.

Kugcinwa kuphi
